What a Drum Kit taught me about Empowerment

There’s currently a full drum kit sitting in the middle of our lounge.
Not exactly what you’d expect in a cosy living room setup—but it’s there for a good reason.

My partner is preparing for a concert, and the sun was damaging the kit in its usual spot. So, we moved things around—and for now, it’s our new focal point.

And I’m surprisingly okay with it. (Most of the time. Let’s not talk about the 7:30am rehearsals. 😅)

We Don’t Fit Into Boxes—and That’s the Point

This quirky little rearrangement reminded me of something deeper.

My partner and I? We don’t live life by the book.

We’ve never fit into neat categories, and we’ve stopped trying. Instead, we’ve each built our own Blockbuster Life—one that reflects who we truly are.

And from that foundation, we’ve created something extraordinary as a couple.

What Empowerment Really Means

To me, empowerment isn’t just about self-help slogans or being “strong.”
It’s about:

  • Knowing who you are and living in alignment with that
  • Being supported, not shaped
  • Creating space for your partner to shine, while never dimming your own light

This is how we’ve done it—and how I help others do it too.

You don’t need to fit the mould to live a life that fits you.
