You Stink!

How’s your relationship with your kitchen floor?

How much time have you spent on it, with it, getting to know it?

When I hit rock bottom, I spent 3 whole weeks living on my kitchen floor. I got to know it pretty well.

I was hiding from the World, full of fear and shame. I had become a recluse and had a panic attack every time I left the house. My kitchen floor was my safe place.

There was a particular corner of my kitchen that I could sit in and not be seen by anyone walking past, nor from any other window of the flat.

For those 3 weeks I lived in the same pair of pyjamas. I didn’t shower, I brushed my teeth sporadically, and my hair was matted. I ate only what I could reach in the lower cupboards – think crisps, mainly crisps, and drank water and wine.

If people called me, I would decline invitations and make excuses as to why they couldn’t visit me.

I was hosting one heck of a pity party and I was the only guest.

One morning my then partner turned to me as he was leaving for work and said “You need to shower Deb, you stink”.

That might sound harsh.

But in that moment, it jolted something awake in me. An embryonic thought that said ‘Maybe this isn’t the way forward’.

A few days later, still living on the kitchen floor, I had a moment of clarity.

Some questions rose up from somewhere deep inside:

• Why have I let myself get to this stage?
• How have I allowed myself to get to this state?
• Why did I give other people so much power over how I feel?
• How can I come back from this?
• What does “normal” even mean—and how do I get there?

I didn’t know it then, but those questions were the very first sparks of creating my Blockbuster Life.

Today, those are the same questions I help my clients explore when we begin working together.

We shine a light on where they are, how they got there, and what no longer serves them.

Then, together, we look through a new lens and craft a vision for the future they want to step into.

That’s when the Lights ~ Camera ~ Action process begins.

The path that takes them from the wings to the spotlight, becoming the leading lady of their own life.

Because I’ve been there, I know the way out.

And I use it every time I want to uplevel, again and again.

If your relationship with your (metaphorical) kitchen floor is getting a little too intimate, it’s time we talked.

Drop me a DM and say you’re ready for a kitchen refurbishment – the kind that starts from the inside out.
