A total contradiction

I sometimes think that everything I do is a total contradiction.  I’ve felt that way for much of my life and I’ve always brushed it off as me being a Gemini!

That works for me and for the people who know me, but what about you?  Someone who only knows me by what you read here or see elsewhere on social media.

I know I can be pretty confusing at times – and given my age I can get pretty confused too!  But I digress.

My contradictory nature and sometimes confusing messaging was called into question recently.

First of all, I was asked why, as a relationships coach, don’t I share much about my partner? Does he even exist?

Secondly, why do my programmes promote being totally open and transparent (They’re called ‘Behind the Mask’ and ‘UnMasked’) when I promise anonymity and not having to share any details with anyone other than me?

Thirdly, why do I talk about domestic abuse and creating strong, healthy and robust relationships in the same breath? Surely they’re total contradictions of each other?

So I thought it was time to set the record straight;

  1.   Yes, my partner does exist.

He hates social media and because of his work with young people, he needs to maintain a low profile online.  I respect that and just as I wouldn’t take him into the office with me, I don’t feel that he needs to be in my online office often.

2.  Being open and honest is at the core of every strong relationship but I respect that my clients, female executives and business owners, also want to keep intimate aspects of their personal life private.  I support them in being open and honest with themselves about what’s really going on for them in their relationships.

Then we work on the sexy little extras.

3.  I share my story of domestic abuse – 3 abusive relationships where I endured physical, sexual, psychological and economic abuse, and I avidly support any and all action to raise awareness of it and help those affected by it.  I also deliver domestic abuse workshops to employers of all sizes.

However, my mission is not to raise awareness of it but to reduce the prevalence of it.

I truly believe that by educating people to create strong, healthy and robust relationships we can reduce the prevalence of domestic abuse. So yes, they are total contradictions of each other but they’re also two sides of the same coin.

I’d love to hear about your contradictions if you have any.  Drop me a DM and let’s have a zoom or, even better, let’s meet for a coffee.
