Living my Blockbuster Life – and why it matters to you too!

I’ve worked with many coaches over the years but there’s one who always sticks in my mind.
That’s the coach who told me I would never be successful because my dreams and goals weren’t big enough.
I recall arguing with her that I simply wasn’t driven or motivated by money, power or materialism, and she counter-argued that I was just saying that because of my own limiting beliefs.
I called BS on it at the time, and still do.
Needless to say I stopped working with that coach shortly after that exchange, and haven’t worked with her since. She’s still out there promoting success as money, power and materialism.
I was reminded of that exchange this past weekend as I was celebrating my 54th birthday. There was no party, no excess of anything, yet is was one the best birthdays I’ve had in a very long time.
Why?
Because I did what I wanted to do, in the way I wanted to do it.
- I spent 24 hours in London with my partner.
- I went to New Bond Street to collect the Montblanc pen I gifted myself as a joint graduation and birthday present. I’ve wanted one for years but could never justify that expenditure on a pen. My mother thinks I’m crazy, but I did it anyway.
- We had coffee and cake in a coffee shop in Mayfair.
- We ate at a fabulous Lebanese meal in a random restaurant on the Edgware Road and will definitely eat there again if we can find the restaurant again.
- We watched my son perform in a play (his first on the professional stage).
- We stayed in a hotel in Knightsbridge.
- We walked all the way around Hyde Park .
- We took a slow train ride home.
- We ordered Domino’s pizza for a lazy lunch.
- I opened some fabulous, thoughtful birthday presents.
- I cooked us, my son and his partner a fabulous steak dinner.
- We shared good wine and played daft board games after dinner.
- We took a motorbike ride to test my new summer-weight biking jacket. It will be perfect when the weather’s HOT!
It was a really low-key birthday but one that left me feeling full-up, content and rich.
